When Kallie was about 2 months old she got a little spot of her face which I thought was a little baby acne. I scratched it off....ya i know...your not suppose to. Well, it didn't go away. It just grew..and grew. It grew really fast and so we took her into the Dr for him to check it out. It looked kind of like a mole but he wasn't quite sure what it was so he referred us to a plastic surgeon.
We went and met with Dr. Klomp who was AMAZING and he really wasn't quite sure exactly what it was either. He was really concerned at how fast it had grown but didn't want to jump into surgery and take it off since she was so young. We waited a few month to watch the growth and went back in for a visit. It had barley grown since the last appointment and so he suggested since she was almost one we could go ahead and remove it to make sure it wasn't cancerous.
We scheduled her for surgery and went in 9/8/10. She did fairly well for having to fast for so long. We got to the hospital and they got her back and ready. She looked so cute in her little tiger gown. Dr. Klomp took her and did an excellent job. She has a little scar right on her crease line of her cheek so it is barley noticeable.
I love how they gave her a little pink wrap over her IV site. So cute! :)
All went well with her surgery until the next day. She was fevering and got up to 103.7! I was freaking out because she started panting and having a harder time breathing. We talked to Dr. Klomp and he said a fever was normal but that was pretty high and the panting was something to be concerned about so Nick gave her a blessing and we headed to the ER. That was a horrible!! They had to get a urine sample which resulted into getting a catheter. Oh WOW...It was heartbreaking. The nurse tried to get it in but was struggling and Kallie was screaming, both parents crying and not knowing what to do..finally a ped. nurse came and got it right on the first try. Thank goodness for Nick's dad. He came and helped out and was such a great support. It is nice to have medical people in the family!
She has been healing quite nicely and it is crazy to remember her with her little 'beauty mark'!
We followed up with Dr. Klomp a week after surgery and everything looked good. Turns out it was just a really random growth that only happen to like 2% of infants and happens between the age of 2 months and 2 years. So glad it was just nothing!
